Hey Georgia - I really like this idea - and I REALLY like your drum kit illustration - your style here reminds me of the work of the illustrator, Lucinda Rogers:

I like very much your bold use of the drum-kit as heart idea - lovely - and the emphasis on sound implied by this choice. Just reminded me of these:

I do think you could combine your heart/drum kit with more abstract elements to show the blood leaving and arriving in the heart - the three animations above make great use of simple backgrounds, line art and close relationships to the soundtrack - all to great effect.

You've got a couple of lines of script in there - I'm interested to know how you intend to get the educative element into your film - so a voice-over could do it, or, with your graphical style, motion graphics-style use of animated text could be good too. I just want to be clear - you're going to start your animation with the heart working fine - the organic pacemaker doing its job - and then show how, when that gets tired (the drummer gets tired?) you show how a robotic/electronic pacemaker steps in to maintain the rhythm?

Just in terms of collaboration it would be great if you could work with an actual drummer to create your heart beat sound track? You've got the time I think to start asking around...

So - for me the bit that's not as clear as your drum kit idea is what sits around it for the rest of the animation - so though the focus is on the heart itself, how much of the cardiac cycle are you going to consider, and how are you going to a) art direct those elements and b) get the educational content (narration and/or text) into the animation in an effective and appropriate way?
