Hi Georgia,
ReplyDeleteRegarding research sources, as far as I can tell the key theorist on Promethean shame is philosopher Günther Anders, who created the concept of ‘Promethean shame’ regarding mankind’s anxieties around technology. Unfortunately we don’t have anything on him in the Library, put you can put in an interlibrary loan request for the book ‘Prometheanism: Technology, Digital Culture and Human Obsolescence’ which contains the full text of Andres’ essay ‘On Promethean shame’ (there are instructions on how to that here: http://www.uca.ac.uk/library/services/requesting-material/.
There is a good article on Andres’ philosophy and career at http://www.rowmaninternational.com/blog/guenther-anders-smart-technology-and-the-rise-of-promethean-shame.
Library resources
You might find useful information in The transhumanist reader classical and contemporary essays on the science, technology, and philosophy of the human future, as well as in this ebookPhilosophy of technology the technological condition : an anthology, particularly the introduction, Part IV Heidegger on Technology and Part V Technology and Human Ends
Liquid metal : the science fiction film reader (available from Farnham), particularly Chapter 11: On the Edge of Spaces: Blade Runner, Ghost in the Shell, and Hong Kong's Cityscape, by Kin Yuen Wong.
Also, be sure to use the Library’s online journals search. I’ve linked to some example searches below:
"ghost in the shell" religion particularly ‘Epilogue Towards a technical-scientific reconfiguration of religious narratives?’
"science fiction" christianity technology
If you need anything else, you can reach me via aday7@uca.ac.uk or email gatewayrochester@uca.ac.uk to arrange a tutorial.
