3rd Year Major Reflective Statement
Overall id say this year was good, however there is always the bad too. My project this year made me happy because our course allowed us to do something we were interested in and provide it to become a reality which I think can be otherwise hard outside of somewhere like a creative university.
I experienced a lot of trepidation regarding the different changes that had to be made throughout the way for example losing one of our respectable tutors, not being able to follow our routine of university due to covid and also some very unexpected personal life changes however regardless everyone would have had their own version of this, but I think the situation has pushed people also in terms of more independence for example trying to retain more information and I had to be more organised and work hard in a short space of time.
I like to have a plan and repetition with visual learning that is broken down and done in pieces but this worked being away also due to good communication. By no means perfect has anything gone in terms of my animation for example the struggle with some timing with narration and lip syncing however I think the end was better than the beginning., but it definitely wasn't as bad as I thought it would be in terms of learning difficulty due to the skills I better improved upon during this year.
I feel like I learnt a lot of things including 2d face rigging and adding more into the rig, controls, better modelling, parts of rigging, more about cameras and lighting, more about texturing and layers, certain features on various programs, more ways to animate, certain Maya settings how to better improve and simplify a storyboard/script and id be willing to learn more, this year has been the year I have learnt the most however I'm not stating the others were not vital stepping stones.
Art has always been personal to me, a personal goal, I feel like I have done better than I thought I would in terms of 3d animation as this was a step up from learning 2d animation on dragon frame and only life drawing and buildings etc.. This is because of myself, wanting to better improve from the previous years where it took me too long to understand something on the course in my mind which provide disbelief in my own capabilities however I think this has improved and I've accepted it.
Thankfully though because of having good friends and family and good tutors mentally and physically anything can become achievable and I am very thankful to them.
Although I had lots to learn and get used to, I feel like I learnt a lot in terms of improving my 3d skills and also my motivation and gained some more confidence on the way which was very much needed and although difficult at times I found it to be satisfying and fun and was glad I was doing it, this year has broadened my knowledge and interest in art and animation whilst improving skills i already worked on but new ones as-well. I would love to have a future with art/animation I like various parts of the process and have always struggled to pinpoint the exact thing I want to focus on, I feel like my chances are higher now to get that because of this year., however there is always more to learn and always more room to improve even if you were in an industry or not.

The concept of the animation is to explore childhood to adulthood in a way in which focuses on whether we truly ever grow up?.
or why there is a pressure or prejudice of being childlike as an adult. The intention is to form some kind of relatable feelings to the audience with what they may have loved as a kid and still love or what they love now in terms of childlike nature. etc. a film a cartoon a game, a board game, toys, being a collector, I like the simplicity of pawns and meeples but I also love the detail of Warhammer. Because hobbies and interests make people happy and have a value even as an adult and stay with you forever/make you who you are.
The goals of the project was to create an animated short which had developed from premise to minor to major.

Post viz with credits@Alan
- How does the credits look is this what you meant? I am trying to keep it simple as the background is always white..
- I'm not sure how I do the playblasts for the screen wipes like you are describing so I might need more info on how to do this? I signed up for a tutorial on Wednesday incase I cant figure it out.. also are you suggesting they are part of this?, or just separate play blasts to see how they work? like what you explained with the single renders with no ground plane.?
- Also should I have the title in there at the beginning or should it just go straight into it?

Shot,3,6,7 Pre visualisation render playblast@alan
ok so these are the other ones that were final shots, I have a question about the dice roll and the paint pot ones which is do I do a render and playlist of them swell? do I keep the white ground plane or not as these are screen wipes? other than that I am now going to look at my list of priorities and animate and get feedback when I upload to try get them to the same stage.

What I have been up to
Rendering the pots now(beauty then going to do wireframe etc.) I added deathworld forest and animated it like the others then after that ill put this in the demo reel and work on the other two scenes to put in.
edited the text. did the editing keys for the clay/wireframe/beauty.
don't know how long the face rig should be shown its shown twice at the moment I also think I need to make it fade out etc. but other than that I think this is good now nearly this part?
paint pot scene for rendering to put in reel@Alan
Do these look ok to you in terms of the layout/animation etc? like to render a 200 frame beauty pass and wireframe? for the main character i did 200 for each version
took the render into the after effects file quick just to see if it looked ok with the text.

Beginning of reel so far ive done the wireframe and clay pass but haven't included yet.
next I'm going to set up the other demo reel shots to go into this e.g.. cake balloon, paint pots and brush, toppers. (not the stand) dice?? then playlist to get confirmation then edit everything together.
